View Full Version : New camera & excited about the photos!

I just purchased a new Panasonic DMC-FZ20 about a week ago. I absolutely love it so far and have had a lot of successful shots, and a lot of failed shots! I've never had a camera with so many features, only Point & Shoot cameras.... until now!! I'm an amature when it comes to photography and am shooting like crazy, trying to see what works, what doesn't... what looks good, what looks blah.

Here are some shots that I took a few days after I got the camera. Please critique and let me have some honest opinions. I'm excited about digital photography and would like to hear what's good & bad of the pictures that I take, that way I can work on those things that make a picture worth a thousand words. :D

Hey,

Wow, these photographs are amazing. I think that they are almost perfect, everything is sharp and well exposed. My favorite was the photo of the cheetah (I think, lol) Very good job! Where were they taken? Keep posting..

Thanks, that helps build my confidence. :D They were all shot at the Tulsa Zoo. I wanted to see just how well animal shots would turn out and it was a cold day.. so I tested it there. I simply stood around, waiting for the animals to look my way, or lay down or whatever and ended up snapping around 250 shots. Out of the 250, 20-30 looked really good (IMO).

Actually, it was a jaguar and he/she was a pain to get! I took the shot through 2 layers of filthy glass and had to stand around for a good 15+ minutes before it FINALLY turned and looked towards me. It kept pacing the back wall, trying to get into some door. I just happened to have my camera up and ready when it turned around and snapped one shot of it before it turned back around. :)

I have been taking shots of all kinds of things. Today I went to the edge of Tulsa and was taking some daytime shots of the city and a helicopter from the National Guard flew over and I got some nice shots of it. I'll post it later tonight if I have a chance. I'm going to go back and get some night shots of our lovely city, since I haven't had a chance to play with the slooooow shutter speeds yet. :D
