I'm heading off for a day of motorcycle riding and to take some shots at the beach. I was just wondering if the magnets (really strong ones) on my tank bag would be a bad on my camera? I have carried my old Canon A40 with no problems, but I wonder if the optical image stabilizer in the FZ-20 would be effected?

Sorry, I can't conform this, but I'm sure that it would be ok... perhaps put it in the top of your bag?
The magnets in my bag are in the side flaps anyway, so your camera wont be resting on them.
I doubt there would be any effect.
To be sure, perhaps contact Panasonc, and post back what they say? :D

Don't think it'll be a problem. I've gone hiking with the FZ20 as well - no problems encountered

I don't know if this is a problem or not, but you may want to check out the effect of strong magnets on memory cards in general.

Well, I guess that when you go abroad, your luggage passes through magnetic scanners to check weapons. They usually generate very powerful field but your camera and your memory doesn't effect. Even the Hard Disks don't loose the data at all.

Maybe I was thinking of those old 3 1/2" floppy disks
