OK. Here is the deal. I got my sd300 3 days ago and the message "no memory card" has a 50/50 chance to show up on switching on the camera after it has not been used for some time, normailly more than 10 - 20 minutes. I tried different ways to get rid of it and it looks like that only by removing the sd card and reinserting it back I could cure this problem. You can then shoot pictures, switching your camera on and off no problem. But if the camera is idle for about 10-20 minutes you have again this 50/50 chance of the message to come back. The SD card is a 512MB card made by Dane-Elec.
I think that I am replacing this camera but just wanted to share my concern and also to find out if this is a common problem for this type of camera and how many people had this issue. Although the camera's overall performance is great I may start looking for a more reliable one.

So far no problems of such a nature that I've heard of.

You may want to use Sandisk cards instead because they are more reliable and known for their high quality and standards. I've had no problems with 3 of my Sandisk cards (2 CF, 1 SD)

Is there a way to bring that SD card back to the retailer? Actually I suggest using branded cards like SanDisk.
