Hi,

I'm a newbie on this forum....I'm trying to get pros feedback on what you would do. I dropped my compact digital which originally costed about $400 a about 4 years ago and cracked the lense rendering the camera kapputt. Canon said it would cost about $100 to fix w/ a 90-day warranty. Has anyone ever received repair service from them, and how was it? Should I have them fix it, or put the money towards a camera w/ similar features that are important to me? The new camera doesn't have the Image Stabilzation feature which I think is important, but does have video capability which would be a plus but is not vital to me.

I'm not a big techie who has to have the most recent gadgets and don't want to spend as much as I did before for a comparable camera. Please let me know your thoughts.

Without a model number it is really impossible to know the quality of the camera. I find it difficult to belive that a dropped camera with a cracked lens can actually be fixed for $100.

So the camera is 4 years old. Why don't you go to an electronics or camera store and look at a few P&S cameras and read some reviews to see what is available at what cost? The decision to stick with your older camera at the repair cost or upgrade it will be a lot easier then. Given the fact that you are apparently dissatisfied with the lack of certain features on the broken unit it seems like a good time to consider an upgrade. Keep in mind that there may be a 3rd option aside from repair or purchasing new. For 100$ it may be possible to buy an older used camera that is more recent than your broken one.
