I have always fancied owning a Nikon. Somehow, however, since delving into the realms of Digital Photography Nikon has not quite made it for me. When ever I am looking at test pictures and comparisons they tend to be a bit..I don't know quite how to say this but 'furry' in appearance - sometimes less sharp or softer (eg. CP5400 vs Oly C-5060). Also they often seem to have a bit of a red cast. Generally photos taken on any of them look pretty great, yet when you stick them side by side with Canon or Olympus equivalents they just don't seem quite as good. I think the closest comparison I have seen is the 8800 which looks pretty good... they all look pretty good, ... just not quite as good as...
Is it me ~ or does anyone else find this?
I wouldn't hesitate to recomend Nikon to any one - just as long as they do the comparisons for themselves.

I think my Nikon 995 takes better pictures than my Nikon 3100 or my Canon S1 IS.

Well I had to check that out for myself - and I have only looked at samples from one site so far - but it is quite a different beast. I think, as with all cameras, you need to see quite a few different shots before forming any real opinion - so forgive me for being a bit premature as I have not looked at this camera before.
Well - it's almost film like in some pics - having that smoothness not usually found on digital. However - the first pic I looked at looked soft as if a soft focus lens was on the front and THAT is why I reckon you have to look at a lot of examples. That model must have been just before I got into digital.
Certainly different!!

I find my 995 produces very film-like photos. The quality is wonderful. My 3100 tends to produce harder images that look a bit picture postcardy. My S1 produces images that are a shade on the soft side - nowhere near as good as my 995 although they look acceptibly sharp when they're printed.
