I need to go ahead and purchase a camera pretty much today. I can't find the Canon A75 for a reasonable price from a seller I trust, so I'm going to go with the A85 or A510. (Of course, if there is a better Sony alternative, I'll take it, as I have a million memory sticks.)
Thanks
Lisa

Ooh, just saw the Nikon 5400 deal with the rebate.
So I'm purchasing this evening.
A510, A85, or Nikon?
Thanks!

Haven't decided yet. I'm such a novice, I need direction! I frequently suffer from post-purchase depression because of the excess of choices offered to me. :)
What's your vote? As soon as my kids are in bed, I'm hitting "submit order." I just don't know what I'm ordering yet.

I have had an A510 for 3 days and it's going back for a refund (actually I'm going to buy a second D70 body...long story) My advice? GET THE NIKON..you will be getting a true 5MP, large sensor, pro-sumer camera for the price of a point-n-shoot.

As great as the 5400 is, make sure it's the right size for you before you order. It's quite a deal bigger than any of the prospective cameras you were looking at. It's also a little slower than the other P&S models you were looking at. You get quality and features, but it's a tradeoff in convenience and size that you need to consider. This is a rough, rough comparison, but the 5400 is about the same size as a Canon Powershot G6, only a little lighter.
For a $200 purchase, it would still be adviseable to buy the camera in a real store (Fry's, Best Buy, etc.), especially if the price difference is not much (less than 10% of the purchase). If you do opt for online, there's always Amazon.com. Not the cheapest of the cheapest prices, but ultra reliable and trustworthy.

Thanks for the tips Rex. Sorry George, I was so excited I forgot to say I was going to order the Nikon. But considering Rex's advice, I am going to stop by a B&M store to check out the actual cams to make sure I am getting the right thing for our needs.
The saga continues...

A really strange idea just struck me. You said you have bundles of Memory Sticks? Why not take a look at the Sony V1 if it's still in stock anywhere? It was running for around $250 at Fry's last time I checked. It's the mini-predecessor (Just a little larger than an A75!) to Sony's acclaimed V3 and it's packed with a lot of goodies.

Hi Lisa,
One place you can trust is Crutchfield.com, which is one of the best internet sellers out there. They are out of the A510 right now, but they do have the Nikon 4100 on sale for $199. Not a bad little camera, and is fairly equal to an A75. The big difference is that the 4100 does not have aperture or shutter priority modes, but it does have 4mp/3x and uses just 2 AA's. Crutchfield has a no-hassle return policy, and will even pay for the return shipping. They are in the same league as Land's End and Sierra Trading Post when it comes to internet buying.
Butterflyphoto.com has the 5400 for just under $400, placing it after rebate at about $198 or so. It's probably not the best place to do business, but I recently ordered a camera from them without any problems at all.
Check out the Crutchfield site before you order....
