I wonder verry much if Canon is planing to stop the manufacturing of the SD300 and shift to SD400.

I don`t like the sd400 verry much; it has MORE noise, it is more expensive than the SD300 now and the ring arround the lens ... .

Why replace something is working well ?. For ONE MP ?.

What do you think ?.
Mikey.

I dont see any confirmation on any of the news.

Ideeas ?. :D

Besides the rule of thumb that more MP results in higher noise levels (if all other things are constant) what makes you think the camera will be noisier?

Besides that, there is nothing to make me think the camera will be noisier.
Don`t get me wrog, there is many other cameras with 5 MP at 1/2.5'', but why replace something that is selling well ?. AND after only 5 months ?.

The SD200 and SD300 are not going anywhere.

Thanks for the confirmation Jeff !.
I was 90 % sure of that, but I wanted to make another 10%. :D

But Jeff, why a lot of peaple on other forums say the SD400 will replace the SD300 ?. Is your "source" trusty ?. (Excuse I am a bit ironic :p ).

Things work best for what they are and so the ultra compacts with 3 to 4 and max 5 MPs.....loading too much of pixels on tiny image sensors with small lenses and small apertures is going to do little with quality of image but much with elevating noise, file size and so the need of bigger memory storage.
And, having manual power is no good untill the camera itself is not big enough like the SLRs and prosumers cameras (which have powerful lens and big sensors)which give the results when u push them to extremes manually. In ultra compacts even if we have manual control we cannot achieve satisfactory results under tough conditions, because there components cannot support well the extremes of manual settings.
Under tough conditions SD300/200 gives the user enough options to explore and get the results, that are practically possible for a camera of this size, even with manual capability.
SD400 or SD500 may have more and better features (ofcourse with extra $$)but in no way they are going to replace SD300 or SD200, for they are still the best choice as ultra compacts with perfect balance of performance, features and PRICE.

thanks

The SD200 and SD300 were both announced less than 6 months ago and as far as I know, the minimum length of time a Canon camera "stays" is at least 1 to 2 years.

if you compare them they have different prices, features( some manuals and movie mode,accessories,etc.).usually if are a person who loves to take pictures for emails attachments , prints 4.7x3.5, 6x4, 8x11. sd200 3.2 MP and sd300 4 MP is good enough but if you love to make larger or more prints well sd400 5 MPand sd500 7.1 MP will be ok.well for me i usually use
1600x 1200 pixels for 6x4
1024x768 pixels for 4.7x 3.5
640x480 pixel for email attachment
and sd 200 and sd 300 will be there for while..enjoy taking pictures :)

Excuse me, but I am a fan on Canon for much time and I usualy liked the new models they brought, but from what I saw yesterday, I must admit I`ll sincerely chose a G6, (or Sony V3) instead of the SD500, for many reasons - (excuse me Canon-ists :D ).
I agree that the SD500 has a 1/1.8'' CCD BUT still Canon G6 or Sony V3 performs (a bit) well I think, and I`m repeating my self, I still prefer a much solidly construction and fell of the G6, or V3 over the SD500/Ixus700.
Once again, don`t take me wrong, I had in time much cameras (Canon, Sony, Kodak, Olympus, etc.), still Canon is best in terms of noise, but now I don`t like these new models (SD400, SD500).
And you say the SD200, SD300 will not stop from manufacturing ?. That`s a good news !.

I quite agree with your first post and this post that the SD400 doesn't look good. By what I've seen, it has too much grey. Making it look grey and dull looking - showing that it's not in the mood for some picture taking fun ;) . But I must say, that the SD500 looks quite good and for the person who takes pictures almost anywhere at anytime (Like me), the SD500 would certainly be the choice.

A camera depends on one's needs. If you want high quality pictures and more manual control, go with the G6. Able to sacrifice a large LCD for more noise? Go with the Sony V3. Need power in your pocket? Then the SD500 is your choice.

Nope - There's no reason to get the P200. Identical specs as the SD500 and the SD500 uncomparable when it comes to shot-to-shot speed, movies, color editing (My colors), size, etc.

By the way, what camera do you have/want to get?

I had the Pro1, G5 and the S410 and some others.
In a few days I want to buy the G6, because of what it can do :D .

Hee ... sorry that was a typo. I meant the SD300. I don't think they're stopping that right? A friend of mine just bought one not long back.
