I was pretty sure that Canon will soon announce a 7MP version of Canon S500 but it looks like they announced a 7MP version of their SD line-up. Is this it or can we expect an S500 upgrade to arrive at PMA?

Looks like it is the replacement. They've gone to SD cards, otherwise it seems to be everything you'd expect in an S500 replacement.

Oops, on edit I see that there is a lack of manual controls. So maybe there's a full manual control ultracompact in the pipeline as well.

Oh I didn't see much info about the manual controls on the SD. Good find. Thats the reason I guess an S500 upgrade might be coming soon. If SD500 is $500 then I wonder how much S600/700 will cost? ($600 my guess which will make it the same as a G6). Geez if its the same as the G6, I wonder what would be a better choice? S500 or a G6?

Anyways, the "S" line-up of Canon had several complains about the E-18 (including the S500). I would be scared to get an S600/700 incase that E-18 thing still is there. I haven't heard anything about an E-18 on G6. Not even google is showing anything which is a great sign that they are improving.

The G6 isn't big at all, but the S500 is very small for what it does. It's all about size.

No more announcements from Canon, at least officially. They have announced their official lineup for PMA on the press release site. Anything else is a surprise.

Well, the SD500 is AKA the Ixus 700. Unless Canon wants to skip the number "600", where IS the Ixus 600? Something suspicious??

I am waiting for one such ultracompact model....if it doesnt turn up this PMA event, maybe i will go with A510....well priced with full manual control

btw..do u think A520 with 4MP and 100$ more is worth a buy compared to A510 with 3MP (all other features look exaclty same)

thanks

Canon does indeed seem like they're moving to SD cards...
