i'm looking to buy a 4gb microdrive to hold all my pics for a trip to europe this summer. (along w/ 1 or 2 cf cards) i was wondering if there will be any problems with this at the airport x-ray machines, etc. i would hate to have something wipe the drives that i could have avoided. i haven't travelled w/ a digital camera yet so if anyone has any travel advice so i don't lose all my pics before i get back it would be appreciated. thanks.

The microdrives don't have problems with the airport machines. I've brought mine through before and it was ok.

Yea, don't buy a microdrive. Their failure rate, while still quite low, is much higher than solidstate memory cards. With the price of large memory cards dropping, and the increased power usage and slower speeds of a microdrive, I'd avoid buying one at this point.

If you already have one, airport machines won't effect it.

thanks guys, for the advice and information. i would really like to get a microdrive with 4gb of storage for under $200 it seems like a great deal. i won't be doing much continuous or high speed shooting. is the falure rate really an issue with these things? now you've got me paranoid.
