This new 645 camera has 12-contacts to the lens! What in the heck could you need that much electrical control of in a lens? It defies explanation. :eek:

I expect it's basically a legacy issue. Remember, this is a fairly classic lens mount. Rather than have a digital information exchange, with data serialized and sent as messages, probably different pins are on or off. 12 contacts, then, give only a little over 4000 possibilities, which isn't a whole lot when you consider that it should tell focal length, aperture, and etc.
