I am trying to establish if my newish A75 has a fault with the lens zoom facility, and hope that someone can give me an answer. A reply from Canon was totally unhelpful. If say,to keep things simple, I switch my camera on in, for instance, the auto setting, should I have lens movement when moving the zoom dial to the left and the right from the dial neutral position? I only have movement when the dial is moved to the right (and back,of course). In other words, is the lens not covering the 35 to 105mm margin at all, or is it trying to do the job between the zoom dial neutral position and the zoom dial right-most position? I ask the question because things seem a bit strange as they are and also because I am finding it difficult to frame the subject with accuracy as the lens movement seems to be very erratic, as if it is trying to cover the range (35 to 105) in half the movement of the zoom dial than it should be. Also, if I knew for sure what position in the lens zoom range (about 50mm?) the lens goes to when the camera is first swithed on, I would know the answer to my question right away. I really would appreciate any help on this - warranty and all that!

I think I get what you're asking. In AUTO mode, my A95 always starts the lens at 7.8mm (shortest focal length, or fully zoomed-out).

Also, the zoom really works in about 6 "stops", so maybe that accounts for the erratic movement you describe. It can be a bit limiting when trying to frame a shot since there's really only a half-dozen focal lengths available.

The camera does not start out in "nuetral" zoom position. and should always start up in the widest position (7.8mm) so if you try to zoom in there is nowhere to go so you can only zoom out at start up.

The A95 zoom is in 6 stop increments. That's why you have the erratic movement.
