I bought my A85 45 days ago. I was very disappointed with the first pictures that I took. I felt there were "washed out" ...overexposed. These were taken in "auto"....with and without flash. I have taken about 2000 pictures now and I am still somewhat disappointed. I don't use "auto" anymore..I gave up on that mode. I use P (program) or A (aperature priority) now for most of the shots. I have found to get decent photos (not great) I must put the exposure compensation to minus 1 to minus 2. With flash I must do the same...Minus 2 for close subjects...minus 1 for 10' away subjects. So far I am generally not happy with this camera. My daughters 2.0 megapixel Kodak seems to always make better pictures. What might I be doing wrong? I know what all the choices on the camera do. I usually shoot in ISO 50, superfine, next to largest or largest size, well focused....still many poor pics. I also have a Sony 505 (2.1 megapixels)which takes much better pics.

it might be your computer monitor, have you tried viewing the pictures on a different one?

Canon A series under low light is never good.
