Hi,

I'm trying to narrow down my choice between and figure out the differences between the different cannon A series cameras. Between the A85/95/510/520, what are the differences (excluding resolution, size, price and the swivel screen on the 95)? Would you expect them all to have about the same picture quality?

I'm trying to pick one that's the most pocketable with the most features, and these cannons seem to be the best match (full manual controls + add on lenses in small package). What I'm trying to figure out now is if there is any difference in the optics/picture quality between these, or if it's just the features...

Right now I'm trying to decide between:

A85 - thinnest, so probably easiest to pocket
A520 - adds 4x zoom but thicker than A85/95 (although not as long)
A95 - like the extra resolution and swivel, but heaviest, still thinner than 520

I'd like an A95 with the 4x zoom but that's not here now :)

Other than the criteria above, is there a difference between these cameras, or do they pretty much all take about the same quality pictures?

I wouldn't worry about the differences between these. The A95 should be favored over the A85 though.

The A510 and A520 are so new (I don't think the A520 is even in stores yet) that I haven't heard anything about picture quality. They're too new to have been reviewed on any of the sites, and so far, no one seems to have bought one, or at least they haven't posted their experiences....

For me the decision was easy. I picked the A95 because of the tilt/swivel LCD. That was important for me - YMMV.

i bought this camera last week at best buy ($200).

its seems that is has everything the A75 does, but is smaller. its built nice and study, feels great in the hands... and all in all takes some great pictures.....

i have only run maybe 100 pictures through it... but they all have looked great. the ability to manually operate the camera as well as have 13 or so great built in 'modes' is a god send.

let me know if you have any questions... i'll do my best to answer....

Yes the swivel LCD is a nice touch.
