Cool shots....and congrats....
Curious...Why did you choose the 400mm over the 100-400?? (apart from IQ that is)

Thanks Faisal :)
I have the 70 200 with 1.4X to cover up to 300mm
I am a big fan of the 400 prime's IQ, also focus speed & hand hold ability

ok that last one is EASILY the best. cant say the others do much for me cos of the distractions and some noise creeping in but that last one is a pearler. sharp, great subject islation and beautiful texture/ colour in the background.

400 on full frame is not enough reach

I heard a good work-around for that is to set the camera on a tripod with a remote release aimed squarely at the birder.

There was a guy who set the birder right out of his balcony, and was sipping hot choco shooting birds with a remote with the camera maybe 7feet away from it.

Though a loud shutter will make most of em leave, he got enough practice in to get some really good close-ups.

I would prefer the bird feeder out of the frame as much as possible
I enjoy the proximity to the birds also, very much :)
