Hello. I read rumours of the new rebel replacement being announced on Valentines day. I even found a picture of what it is supposed to look like. Will someone look at it and see if they think its a fake picture. Danke schön!

http://koti.mbnet.fi/studiox/eos/eos.htmI'm really impressed by the lens that's mounted in the picture. Reading its specs off the nose ring, it seems to be an 18-500mm lens, f1.4. To me, it seems rather small to be able to do all that with a 58mm filter diameter. How about you?

Hi,

I agree, it's hard to tell, but if you look at the sticker which says 350D, the text is slightly off-centered, suggesting it was added digitally (or at least it looks this way to me). Also, a 18-500 lens with a 58mm filter diameter seems a little fake to me. In comparison, the Sigma 50-500 lens seen here-- http://www.vividlight.com/articles/413.htm is MUCH larger and has an 86mm filter diameter. IMHO, the picture is a fake, but I guess we'll have to wait!

and the sigma lens is a F4-6.3 and is pretty big. the canon lens is supposed to be 1.4 and is tiny??
if it is true, HIGHLY unlikely, and it can zoom from 18-500, then I would pay 3grand for it, atleast.
Since it is L glass, and small :D

Somebody in Finland (?) is definately honking our horn with this mock-up. First of all there is no possible way to make an 18-500mm f1.4-4 lens. With or without a 58mm diameter (or even 158mm). I'm surprised that it isn't marked IS as well.

Also at 800 Euros this would compete directly with the 20D. I'm not saying that they wouldn't (after all this is Canon). If they limit it to the Japanese market then maybe...

...I'm heading to Japan in about a week. I probably won't get to Akehabara until the 26th, but I'll check it out then.

Have you looked at the other pictures on the site? A 10-22mm lens. I don't think Canon has a 10 - 22mm lens. Also interchangable focus screens with a centre split and fresnel ring?

And how about the "EOS 2D, 22 megapixels."

I highly doubt that is real. First, I am not 100% sure (Because I don't own one) but I don't think the Digital Rebel says 300D on it, it only says "Rebel" (This camera says 350D). Also, I don't see the word Rebel anywhere on this camera body. Second, the D on all the Canon cameras is broken up, like someone took out some of the lines. The 'D' in the "350D" picture is solid (once again, as if someone digitally did that). As far as the lens issue, The text says it is an "L" lens, shouldn't it be white then? Overall I think it has to be a hoax. Just someone trying to start talk over the internet.

The specs look credible, but the picture is totally phony. It's so obvious that the 350D was pasted straight in. It's not even the right font. And yes, Canon is probably annoucing it on the 14th.

Rhys - Canon has an EF-S 10-22 and it's pretty popular. Not L glass though.

ktixx - Not all lenses are white, only the telephoto ones.

By today's conversion rate 800 Euros would be approximately $1000 which makes sense.

Bear in mind that anybody can upload to that site, so there's no authenticity guaranteed in those codes. We're really feeding the rumor mill like this. Let's just sit back and watch the show. It's only a few more days at most. ;)

but I don't think the Digital Rebel says 300D on it, it only says "Rebel" (This camera says 350D).

It does outside of the US.....

As for the UPC codes, that site is a joke anyone can register a code there, people trying to start rumours do it all the time, don't trust anything from there.

Canon (of Japan) has already spoken (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?p=22153#post22153) although it's very different from what we'd expect. Keep your eyes on what Canon announces for the global market.
