Recently bought a Canon A85, and have a problem. Lately on turning the camera on, the telephoto lens activate. I am certain this did not happen when I first used the camera. Should this happen or am I getting confused as a beginner? Have read mannual, but it is unclear. Advice would be appreciated.

I think the lens exercising is normal. My G2 lens always goes for a brief cycle before it's ready to shoot, and it has a lens cap. Then A85 has a built in lens protector and something must activate to remove it.

It's meant to do that :)

There's a vertical tab on the back of the camera which changes between modes. When it is down, that is for reviewing pictures and for when you plug it into the computer. When it is up, that is for taking pictures.
If you turn the camera on while the tab is down, the lens won't open. If you turn the camera on while the tab is up, the lens does open.

The A85 is supposed to do this.
