I hope someone can help me please! I am driving myself insane :) I am the very proud owner of a Canon 300D which I love but I am looking for a compact digital camera to take on the occasions when the 300d just won't work, for example skiing and mountain biking holidays, outings to the pub or for dinner etc. I have bought countless magazines and looked at tons of web sites but still can't make my mind up.

Having been totally spoilt by the 300d I would like a compact with excellent picture quality but I am less worried about lots of functions as I truly want this as a point and shoot camera. I am unsure whether a 7mp is the answer to the picture quality question.

The 2 cameras that have caught my eye are the P150 and the S70 but I have read mixed reviews about them both.

Can anyone shed some light these cameras or suggest any other cameras that would fulfill my criteria?

Thanks in advance.

i have the p150 as a back up for the 20D.
the sony is small, and takes great pics. the manual focus is kinda lame, but overall, if you know what you are doing, the camera is great.
the camera is a lot thinner than the s70. when i go out and about, i just slip it into my pocket. it feels like a cellphone. the s70 wont.

the p150 wins hands down to the s70 imho. now compare it in image quality to the g6 and that is a different story.

now that the p200 is out, expect prices for the p150 to drop fast.
i think best buy has it for 369 now.
and in a few weeks, even cheaper.

Since you want this to be your secondary "point and shoot" camera, the Sony is a better choice. It takes the same photos, is much faster and simpler, and is overall a better snapshooting camera. You already have a DSLR so you don't need the manual functions, wide-angle, and extras that the S70 offers.

kt23,

The Sony P150 has a fatal flaw - there is a lot of motion blur on shots which you would consider easy. It doesn't matter how many pixels you have or how vivid the colors, if you get blurry pictures more than half the time, the camera is not usable. Blur cannot be corrected. I've heard this from 3 owners of this camera. Serious.

I imagine that you'll be happy with either camera. I went for the S70 and have been very impressed by its images and have made 8 x 10 prints that are beautiful. The 28 mm wide angle is great too. Once you have it, you won't want to go back to a camera that doesn't. It makes indoor shots easy and also is great for capturing big skies and buildings.
