Hello,

I have seen the "battery shootout" on the other site. Does anyone have any real life recommendations regarding AA Nihm batteries?

I am still trying to fiqure out Energizer's equipment damage warranty. On the Nihm package, it says the batteries are lifetime warranteed, but that they do not cover other consequential damages. The other big names have a clear equipment replacement warranty if the battery is the culprit.

Thank you.

I think rechargable AA batteries are a good buy. But considering the hassle of recharging, you may be better off buying a lot of AAs for the cost of the rechagring unit.

Yet, I figured out once that if you make close to maximum useful life of the rechargeables, you could fill about 1/2 to 3/4 of a medium sized bedroom with the equivalent alkaline AA batteries. That's a lot of landfill.

Cheers,
Eric

I've been using 3 sets of Energizer NIMH batteries for over a year and a half. Used it in two different cameras without problems. I haven't had any problems at all and the batteries look the same as when I bought them.

Hey,

I'm surprised that the Energizer won't cover equipment damage. Duracell covers this, I believe, so long as the damage is a result of manufacturing defect rather than neglect or abuse.

I'm all for NiMh batteries. I use them in all my portable products, and modern NiMh batteries are even better than the ones I bought years ago. It's true that they don't have the energy capacity of hi-cap premium AAs, but I think it's a nice thing to do for the environment rather than adding to the waste stream. They're small, don't weigh anything, and you can keep a whole bunch in reserve.

I put colored electrical tape around mine to differentiate the sets I'm working with.

Hope this helps some.

You can buy some 2900 Mah NiMH batteries at Costco that recharge in a shocking 15 minutes. Don't ask how... they only run for $25 and they are specifically made for digicams. A pretty good deal for such a fast recharge I'd have to say. (comes with the charger of course)

After two attempts, Energizer e-mailed me back and said that ALL of their batteries (including Nihm) are warranteed for equipment damage. They sure goofed on their package labeling.

2500's are available locally for under $10/4pack.

Thanks for everyone's help. My A85 and C204W arrived yesterday. Yoo hoo!

Hey, be sure to tell us how that works out. Have fun with those! I'm looking for a nice small compact all-in-one to carry around on my belt when I'm out and about and don't want to carry the G2.

for so long i have considered aa batteries as a requirement for the camer that i buy. but after shopping around, i don't see how im saving my self all that much money. to by a good set of batteries and a charger is not much less of an investment that buying another proprietary battery. although it seems like more initially, its probably more economical too, since those recharchable double aa's loose there charge a lot faster than a those new lithium ion batteries everyone is using. That means your gonna go through alot of aa's in the life of your camera.

Well, I've just recently bought my 3rd set of 4 AA NiMH's, and I've used them constantly since I got my first digital camera 3 cameras ago. It has been, what? 5 years now? Since early '99. I still have and use the first set, but the second set had one cell that went bad and wouldn't hold a charge, so I discarded the whole set. Other than that, I've had no problems with them, other than the charges do tend to deteriorate with time. I find that having 2 working sets with 1 set in the camera and the other set either charging or charged on stand-by in the camera case works really well for me. I rarely have the need to use standard alkaline AA's, or the proprietary Lithium CR3V's that the Olympus' can also take -- of which I also always keep a set for backup in the camera case. I still like having the option to use plain old off the shelf alkaline AA's in a pinch, rather than not have that option because of using a proprietary battery. I've already had 1 big vacation's picture shooting saved because of having that option!
