I am a beginner and am trying to take pics of my kids playing sports. I am using the TV mode and trying to increase shutter speed to get good pics of running, hitting, etc. When I try to take these pics during night games on a lighted field, or at indoor games, my pics are all dark. I tried cranking up the ISO to 1600, but that does not seem to help. Using flash would be inappropriate since they are playing sports ant the flash could be disruptive.
Am I out of luck on this? Are there other camera settings that I should try.
Thanks

1/1200 is pretty fast. Try 1/500.

If you are in Tv mode and you are not getting an exposure error then your shutter speed alone is probably not the culprit. You may just be in one of those situations where relying on the camera's exposure meter is going to produce pictures that are not exposed the way you want them to be. You may have to expose manually or use exposure compensation. Lowering your shutter speed alone in Tv mode shouldn't change anything exposure wise but I would be interested to know if it did.

What exactly is "all dark"? You will need to post an example and tell us the shutter speed, f-stop and ISO. Lighted fields at night are still pretty dim. I think your shutter is way too fast and the lens can not open up enough for a correct exposure. Perhaps you are not noticing the underexposure indicator. Or your exposure compensation is set to some negative value. Or the meter is faulty.
