Hello, I'm a newbie for photography.
I'm selling apparel and doing product shooting.
I have Cannon Rabel XSI with standard EF-S 18-55mm IS lens.
And I shoot apparel weared on a manekin from 4 to 6 feet away.
But picture come out too far and cannot see detail of materials.

So, I'm looking for a lens for this shooting price range less than $1000.
What kind of lens do I need, macro lens or telephoto lens?

Please someone advice with specified manufacturer and model number if possible.
Thank you.

Where are these images going to be used?

Can you post a sample?

i think keeping the 18-55 and using lighting on the mannequin and clothes would be your best bet.

this one's cheap and would probably be powerful enough for what you need to do

you can also find good stuff on www.alienbees.com and www.fotodiox.com

you'll need a way to sync your camera to the studio flash since your xsi doesn't have a sync port

or you can buy wireless flash triggers like the alienbees cybersyncs.

I agree with Adam. With this type of photography its not about the lens, its about the lighting. Lighting will make you or break you, as they say.

This would be another good place to ask for help...
