The Samsung A5 is a decent camera, with 5 megapixels and runs on AA size batts. The only problem could be that I don't trust Samsung so much as a camera brand though.

I would steer away from Samsung Kenox cameras. They have poor camera ergonomics with a mediocre CCD. My friend has the Samsung Kenox A5 and its CCD is quite unreliable. I borrowed his camera and the pictures I have taken have some chromatic aberrations in morning or afternoon photographs. On top of that, the pictures are often soft, even when taken with a tripod. After taking about 500 shots with this camera, only 22 pictures came out respectably sharp. I tried every option avaiable to get some sharp photos but I consider my effort all for naught.

Also, I have a low personal opinion of the camera's ergonomic design. The Samsung Kenox brand has a long road to gain my trust in their cameras. This is my two cents. Don't just take my word for it, go to a shop and play around with it.

If AA battery is a must have camera feature, here is a short list of my favorite 5-megapixel cameras that take take AA batteries:

Canon A95
Fuji E550
Pentax Optio S50
Casio QV-R51
Sony DSC-P93

All these cameras all have their positives and negatives.

this might be a stupid question but when you say the samsung kenox a5 you do mean the samsung digimax a5 that recently came out?

I have the Samsung Digimax A5 camera for 2 weeks and I have to say that I'm very pleased with it. Here's a macro photo to give you an idea of what it cam do. If you want more photos just ask.

After so much searching I've finally found something useful. CRaul, please I need more not only macro pictures from A5 because I am not sure what to buy - Samsung Digimax A5 or Canon A510. I found pictures from the Canon but not from the A5.Thank you in advance.

CRaul, could you post the link to this Romanian site please?

I came across a reference to Samsung A5 by accident. On the samsungcamera.co.uk site, there is a mention of this model winning the 'Best Buy' in a comparative review in the "Which Digital Camera?" magazine of March, 2005. I cannot post the ?commercial link to the excerpt as that is against the Forum Rules. You have to navigate to this site, which is in PDF format requiring Adobe reader to read it. A professional review such as this is as rare as a dragon's tooth. In its short, rudimentary review and comment together with sample photos, in blurry printed form quite unsuitable for making assessment really (the samsungcamera home page has an independent link to A5 which shows some better photos), it says the still pictures are "good".

On paper, at least, A5 is very attractive as an inexpensive, "sharp" -- this is where this professional review is invaluable, using an optical viewfinder with full manual control, needing only AA batteries and a SD memory card, go anywhere, light weight, pocketable camera.
