Well, it's been slightly more than a week since Canon last introduced a digital camera (A520) and competition have already started to .... well..... get more competitive.

Here are the answers from competition:
~To possible S2 IS - Lumix FZ4 and FZ5, Cybershot H1, Dimage Z5
~To A510 and A520 - Lumix LZ1 and LZ2
~To possible S600 - FinePix F10, Cybershot P200 and W5, Digimax V700
~To SD20 - FinePix Z1

Like I said before, DO SOMETHING Canon!

How about a miniature version of the USM (on the S1 IS)? A BSM (B=Basic) for silent zooming on compact Powershots?

Anyway - 6 more days till the day the S500 was released. Any S600?

I believe "what you need is" the Sony P150 !!!! (by your requirements anyway) except it has 3x optical but it has everything else you want/need RIGHT NOW

Canon should be replacing the Pro1 too very soon. It's been over a year now and its being cleared out of the shelves.

Hopefully, it'll have less noise, an AF assist lamp, better ergonomics, etc.

Nah, I'm not trying to get opinions for buying a new camera ;) . Just some suggestions.

And the about the Pro 1, you forgot one improvement that Canon should put in - DIGIC II that equals faster processing and less noise

Speaking of DIGIC II, what's with the 60 FPS movies from the SD200 and SD300? Not that I hate them or surprised I never seen a compact P&S able to do that - Just that it's limited to 1 minute.

The EOS 1Ds Mark II and SD200/SD300 have DIGIC II. The EOS can do 16 MP pics at 4 FPS (continuous shots) and the SD200/300 can do tiny less than 1 MP movies at 60 FPS. The EOS has obviously more load and the SD200/300 have way less processing to do - So by right, they both can do movies at 60 FPS for more than 1 minute if the limit is removed? Am I correct?

Oh, totally forgot about DIGIC II. You'd expect that Canon would place that in its flagship consumer camera. I guess it wasn't even around then or was it?

Based on your signature, you're definitely going to look forward to a G7. Absolute perfect match I'd have to say.
