View Full Version : Canon S500 for my new camera (or will there be a S600 soon?)

After going reading through the forum and reviews, I have searched the canon A95, SD300, and S500.

I decided to go for the S500 since I prefer the smaller size of the S500 over the A95. The SD300 is even better in terms of its overall size and LARGE view-finder compared to the S500. The caveat is the waterproof casing. Since I am interested in underwater photography the SD300 case is only good for 10ft (compared to the 100 ft for the S500). (In terms of manual controls, the S500 is a compromise between the other two).

So the next logical question is when will the 6 mp of the version of the S-series appear? Perhaps with a bigger screen? (and maybe i don't need all of the 6 mp - but it would be i nice)

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Yes, I think there may be a possible S600 coming in this month or so.

I too am looking forward to getting an upgrade to my S500.

With those new competitive cameras (On front page), the S600 MUST have
~MUST (*MOST IMPORTANT*) maintain its current size
~7.2 Megapixels
~AT LEAST 5x optical zoom
~DIGIC II with unlimited movie and continuous shots
~A larger 2.0" LCD (Without removing optical viewfinder)
~Added manual controls (Esp flash exposure adjustment)
~Add-on features such as lens thread and ext. flash
~Still use CF cards

Some of these extras too
~IS (Image Stabilizer)
~Wireless remote
~Large capacity compatible (Cards with 2GB+ space)
~Dock
~RAW format
~Some colors to choose from would be nice

Wait till March (or maybe this month) and see. If it has the "MUST FEATURES" listed on the top, then buy it. If not, get the SD300.
