I want to take some headshots later this weekend and am just looking for advice regarding skin preparation and makeup to use. The model will be a guy. Can anyone give me the minimum makeup and skin preparation that should be taken.
Thanks.

Well, I don't know much about make-up, but make sure the model isn't alergic ;)
If its outdoors.. I dont have the model use any. In the studio I kindly suggest they put on some powder make up to prevent shine and make my PP work easier. Sometimes it can be a hard sell for the men but its worth it. Usually if you tell them it helps reduce hot spots on the face, they will be more open to it.
Make sure they dont put too much on! It will show up in the images, and nobody wants that! A light dusting will do.

I'd highly recommend a light powder on the bridge of the nose and the forehead- depending on how the model's face is built- i may even put some on the top of the cheeks... this will help not get that ugly white line of reflected light down the nose.
Also, i know it's common sense but may be overlooked and should be handled in a tactful way- but normal hygeine goes a long way- greasy skin will obviously reflect light and create hotspots... or if you're shooting under a strong light source- those lights get hot- so keep a clean towel around so the model can wipe off undesired perspiration...
