1) Post your favorite shot
2) Must be taken in 2009
3) Post only 1
4) Must be taken by you
5) If you want, tell us something about your shot
I've taken about a bazillion shots this year, so it's pretty tough to choose just one. This is one I took back in February at Luffenholtz Beach up in Humboldt, CA. My gf's family likes to call this "The Rock Show", because the rocks look like Jaws and King Kong. This is an old edit, but it's all I have on Flickr...

Thats certainly a nice striking shot Lukas but I'm amaized you didn't chose one of those fabulous colour shots you've been posting. Mind you I can see how you'd have a difficult time choosing just one. Have a happy Christmas, I look forward to more of your stunning images in the New Year. Now off to find one of mine I'm willing to put up here.

Dunno if I can participate this year. Last year was easy because I got my camera in March and spent the next six months learning how to use it. This year, I took about 20,000 shots often knowing what I was doing. Even if I only look though the files of good ones I dunno if I can get a single one.

Thanks Phill. It's pretty hard to choose. I tend to like more current shots, just because they're new, but I still love this one even though I took it 10 months ago. Something about it sticks with me. I like to make a little portfolio of my 20 or so best shots of the year. Maybe I'll make a thread for that once I figure it out.

Sure you can. You might just have the pick the top few then go to eeny, meeny, miny, moe to get the finalist.

Close call between this and another, but I think probably...

Searching through the 2009 shots was quite enjoyable & enlightening. There's a lot I can delete :o but there are actually a few I'm quite pleased with. I picked this one as I like the shot and it was a real off the cuff speculative one that turned out far better than I expected. It is a sunset shot taken at Surfers Paradise in Australia. When I initially saw the view from my hotel room I was a bit dissapointed that there was a high rise block exactly where the sun was going to set. Worked out OK in the end though. It was taken with my P&S too

Here is one of my favorite images from this year. Part of a group of pictures taken on Apr 17th when ducks and geese were mating and hatching eggs. Taken with the Fuji S700
I had a number of pics taken that day that are outstanding images. (to me, anyway) but this one is a favorite because both geese were looking my way in a slightly rippled river.

Lukas - I really like the tones of your conversion.
Phill D - Nice color & composition.
Rooz - beautiful shot & processing.
I had a couple of landscapes I really like, but this is it for 2009.

I took this shot of Joey Logano rolling down the track at the Dover race on September 27th of this year. I was able to get this shot even with my camera settings set from the previous days shooting and they were not even close to being right. :o As an added bonus, I did it without spilling a drop of my beer! Sometimes it does pay to be more lucky than good! :D

I did the eeny meeny miny moe thing and came up with this LDS church in St George, Utah. Others in the mix were the Las Vegas version of the Eiffel Tower (many years ago I was in Paris, and missed going up the tower), a plant and rock from the Valley of Fire, Pershing Square in Los Angeles, and the deck of the aircraft carrier Nimitz.

I had a hard time deciding between a few, so I used the very scientific and technical Wengler Method ("eeny meeny miney moe").

I didn't want my wife to catch me declaring my favourite shot to be a set of thistles against an out of focus background and correctly exposed sky:p
So here's this one with one of my kids in it instead.
It's loosly based on something I saw Rooz do and I tried to mimic him (as usual).
Difficult for me to pick just one, but if I had to, it would probably be this boardwalk shot. I took it back in March, its a 7-exposure HDR blend. It has received several mixed reviews, but I love it!

I immediately thought of the night launch of the space shuttle, then looked at the date and was Nov 2008. Continuing review, settled on this one from the spring of 2009. Use to seeing them in fields or along lake shorelines. Never realized they nested so high in oak trees.

There are some great shots here - I just want to say that. I suppose that there should be because this thread is the BEST shots of 2009 by some damn good photographers. I am still trying to decide on a best shot, it's so hard to pick! I now have it narrowed down to 103 shots.
Several hours later:
Well, here it is: http://danwiz.com/Jan2010/Nov29_JindaiBG_315_FallColor_MapleTrees2Frames_950 .jpg. This one was taken on November 29, 2009 at 1:24:46 PM; 1/50 second; f/3.5; ISO 100.
Initially, I was able to sort out 4 semi-finalists and I framed all of those with PhotoShop and posted them on my website. If you're interested you can find all 4 of the semi-finalists here: http://danwiz.com/Jan2010/JanPage3.php

Here's my favourite shot of 2009:
51168
This shot of Uluru was shot during the sunrise. The sunset the evening before had been disapointing, as the sun was behind the clouds for the enitre duration of the sunset. As a result we didn't get any of the famous blazing red colours that evening.
In the morning it looked as though we would be disapointed again. It had been raining that night and there were hardly any signs that the weather was improving. Just before sunset, the clouds in front of the sun broke, lit the rock and painted the rainbow in the sky. I had set up my tripod some time before the sun was suposed to rise and took many shots of this rather unique sight.
This shot consists of two shots I stitched together. I did that to get a bit more resolution so I could print this one really large.

This is my favorite shot from this year. It was taken in the morning (7 or 8am) when I got back to my house after a night of cruising around with my buddies. The previous day I spent hours upon hours (Close to 5 hours) cleaning and washing/waxing the car. The shot was taken with my Canon Powershot s5 while standing in the middle of the street. It was completely spur of the moment (As you can tell by the background), but it turned out just completely awesome IMO of course.

This is one of my favorites for 2009. As I was driving home from work, there was a great sunset and my initial intention was simply to create some stock sky scenes.

Well, sorry to disappoint but I haven't figured it out yet. A few weeks ago I started a new processing and organization system, but haven't got everything sorted yet. It's hard comparing Puget Sound Area v Death Valley v China v Thailand :(. Anyhow, I'm leaving in a few hours of a multi-week random cities of China tour, so I'll try to post my favorite from 2009 in two months :D.
Hopefully next year I'll have a stand-out favorite shot, or at least a better organization system.
<--- All the rest of these are great though!

I had a really hard time picking a favorite, but I really enjoyed hunting geckos in my sister inlaw's pineapple garden in Kona. So this gecko playing peek-a-boo is my choice. Besides they are colorful little buggers.

That was a pretty decent run of people following the rules. Nice shots.

Thanks Lukas.
Jeff ought to make a 2010 DCRP callender out of these. I'm sure he could work out a deal with one of the online photo companies that would make him some money.

Elisha, I love the vivid color in the bottom 3rd. With the crispness of the falls it adds great depth to the image.
