Hello, I have been taking lots of photo of the kids playing soccer, basketball, and such. The day time soccer pics turn out great (mostly). However, when the lights come on, I have to just put the camera way. I own are Canon XTI, and an XSI. Use a 70-300 zoom, and/or a 50-500.

I have tried using shutter-priority, aperture-priority, full manual. Can anyone off advice on manual settings to capture some of the night action. The fields, are various levels of lighting from D-1 college stadium that seat 70K, to city parks that see well lit, to High school gyms.

Buy faster glass. :)

Seriously, that's going to be the answer that produces the best results.

Yep, that is true. Otherwise, up the ISO until the noise is unacceptable.

Indoor gymnasium and outdoor field lighting seems quite bright to the eye, but is woefully inadequate to the camera. To get shutter speeds in the range of 1/150 - 1/250 which is barely enough to have semi-decent stop action for sports, I've generally had to go to ISO 3200 or greater with a f/2.8 lens.
