Will better focusing ability of the 7D negate the issue the Tamron has with low light focusing cause it surely helps make my sigma 70-200 focus faster though the macro lenses are still quite slow...

Maybe but when I tested it I was a little annoyed. I'm waiting for the VC version to show up but still not sure if I will buy it.
Apparently the VC version is slightly faster and quieter.

Elisha...Thing is right now I have borrowed the Canon 17-55mm from a friend and hate it's built quality. For a $1200 lens (locally) it feels really cheap so I don't see the point of buying it. I can get the Tamron for $310 with 9 months of balance warranty left so I'm really tempted especially since I'm getting rid of my Sigma 18-200mm (for $300) as I have a prospective buyer for it and I don't use it much...
Anyway didn't know the VC version was better....intereting. Will look it up...thanks... :)
fdexclpl....Cool...I shall wait for you opinion... :)

Here's one of the mini reviews for it: http://www.photoshopphotography.com/tamron-17-50-vc-review/
But for $310 you can't go wrong with the non VC one. The VC will retail for about $600 when available and maybe a little less later on.

I may be able to answer that question for you later today.:DIt's better. There is plenty of room for improvement but I did notice the change for the better. For less than half the price of the 17-55 it is still a winner for me.

It is better than the nifty fifty. The AF speed is never going to compare to the 17-55 but it is super sharp and $500 cheaper.

My Tamron seems to focus better and faster than my nifty, however it is louder. And those are by small margins. Both of those lenses would have been embarrassing 20 years ago, they are pretty atrocious now. If they at least had good focusing rings like my USM lenses it would be better.
However, they are two of the sharpest, most used, and least expensive lenses in my kit.
It is too bad Tamron hasn't come up with a SWM/USM/HSM/SSM. Outside of that they make some pretty great glass.
