Hey Guys,
Going to start and take up Photography with my wife who is already an expert. I am looking to get a point and shoot camera but have no idea what to get. The reviews all seem wonderful but I just want a camera for under $250.
I just want a camera that has the best or exceptional image/photo quality to be used in various levels of light. Don't really care if it has HD video etc. or what not.
Any suggestions?
I like the cannon SD780 but reviews seem to push the HD video more than the actual picture quality.

That doesn't really exist at that price point. Do you care about size? How about zoom? The compact cameras with outstanding image quality start in price a little north of there. Examples are the Canon G11 and S90, the Panasonic LX3, and the Fuji F200. The Fuji F70 might meet your needs.
Low light performance isn't a big selling point of inexpensive cameras, and under $250 is fairly inexpensive.

When vee do look at sub-$250 deals, your "various levels of light" is a problem area. Best in low light is the Fuji F70EXR. But in daylight you can (arguably) expect nicer color or definition from a Canon SX120 IS or Panasonic FX48. Compact cameras are all about compromise ....

I'll most likely be taking most of my pictures during the day when its sunny or when traveling down south where its always sunny.
Tested a Canon SD780IS and didn't like the image quality. So many choices at so many different price points. Its driving me crazy. I did like the SX120 but I didn't like the fact I had to be powered by 2 AA's.

While not perfect, the SD780 has pretty good image quality. You're unlikely to get anything significantly better in this price range. What didn't you like about this camera? Are you talking about low light image quality, in which case you really are talking about the Fuji F70 as the only option for improvement in this price range.
