So I dropped my 10-22 again (it's the only lens I seem to drop, third time). Not keen on sending it to the Service centre cause last time I did that, they took 2 weeks to fix it and I noticed later(say about 2 months later) that they had chipped the plastic near the front element which I obviously could not prove...
This is basically what had happened today http://www.clubantietam.com/projects/canonlens/canonlens.html but instead of all, only one plastic mount was broken. Fixed it and put everything back as I had removed it but AF is not working. I think it has something to do with the switch i.e I'm not putting that in properly. Any one got any ideas or tutorials and I can view apart from sending it to Canon cause on opening the lens, I found glue in places I feel it shouldn't be there and I have a feeling they're responsible so not keen on sending it to them and paying $100 or so for it. I'm tempted to open up my 18-55mm just to see what I might be doing wrong but will wait for you guys to say something.
Thanks in advance...
EDIT: I found this link(http://www.fotomozaic.ro/artikel.php?idstory=225&s=1) which might help me but it is blocked here so could someone check it out for me.....

The link is for a 50mm f/1.4. Not sure how relevant it is for your lens.
But the AF/MF switch plate is supposed to just slide up to be removed.
3. Remove the AF/MF switch and the base plastic ring.
First the AF/MF switch (1) comes off by sliding it up. Beware, it has a drop of glue on the inside that sticks it to the plastic ring numbered 2 in this image. Then slide off ring nr. 2. NOTE: the AF/MF switch moves another switch on the side of the green circuit board; don't use too much force or you might damage that.

Dammit...so the switch is suppose to be connected to the green board?? Can you post the images???
I know everything else is fine cause I'm getting Af confirmation when I move the focus ring manually..

Nope...the PDF didn't help cause I still can't figure out what switch they are talking about on the green board...
Attached is the shot of the spot where the switch should touch the green board....

Figured what I did wrong. Also figured that I broke it. Sending it off to Canon later in the week....

Is the switch maybe just touching a contact?

That small rectangle piece in between the brown and white thing is the switch that controls the AF/MF....doubt it's a contact thing...

Faisal, If I am not mistaken when you started in DSLR you had to build an entire campaign just to get permission to spend that kind of money. Doesn't seem like you are so screwed to me ;) :D:D

This is the only lens I drop...seems like it's jinxed or something...Hopefully won't drop it again... :(

Yep, I did do a whole campaign to get a 400D. I've come a long way since then but the problem is I just spent 2K on a 7D and was saving up for a Tamron 17-55 f2.8. Now I'm back to square one...

Gave my lens on the 30th of November. They gave me the estimation on 27th December that I agreed to and after multiple calls and delays was told yesterday that the lens was ready. Went to the service centre, tried the lens and the AF/MF button is still not working. It's been almost 4 months and it's still not fixed. Is there a way I can send a complaint to Canon regarding this cause I don't mind paying the money they're asking for it but a wait of almost 4 months is pissing me off.
Here's a link to the local Canon contacts http://www.canon-me.com/Support/support_contacts/United_Arab_Emirates.asp
4 months delay without results (Your button still isn't working.) is completely unnaceptable.
Canon should at this point fix your lens for Free. and apologize.
The hard part is getting in touch with the right folks who would do this for you.

Totally agree that it should have been repaired months ago - that's crazy faisal.
Whether it should be free, that's another issue. But it should have been repaired within two weeks.
