After much research (on-line and in-store), I'm about to buy the SD 200. This is my first digital camera. Please advise as to accessories I should get. I realize I need a spare battery (any particular brand, or is generic ok?), more memory (264 or 512? what does "high speed" mean and do I need it?), and a camera case (any favorites out there?). Should I buy a lens cleaning kit and display protectors? What else am I forgetting? Thanks!!

I have a SD300, pretty much the same. I haven't bought the extra battery yet, but B&H carries two (by Power 2000 and CTA) third party ones that seem to do the job just fine.
I bought a regular Sandisk 512 meg card and it is fast enough for all the camera functions. If you go with Sandisk you don't need to buy the Ultra-II speed cards. I can't speak for the other manufacturers. Definately buy a bigger card than 256, the prices are low enough that it's just piece of mind to have a bigger card.

i got the power2000 battery from amazon.com and it works good.
i have been looking for a good, small case for the camera and so far i am leaning toward the neoprene cases on ebay.
i use a 1gb lexar 32x card that works great. i went for a big card in case i want to take video which is the cameras best feature. i agree that 512 is a minimum starting size if you are going to take any video at all. if not, 256 should get you 100 pics or so.
i would definately look for a good screen protector. the ones at daproducts look nice. i have not ordered one yet but probably will soon since i am on my second camera due to screen breakage.

I am also looking for a case for mine. What should a search as for these neoprene cases on ebay? I did not find anything like that when I searched for SD300 case. I found a nice semi hard case with zip around closure at Wolf/Ritz Camera for $14 that fits perfectly, but I am going to look around some more.

Type in "case sd200" - here is one of the guy's bags for sale....

I love mine ! I also ordered a lcd protector from ebay-it sticks via static cling so it doesn't leave any marks and no cutting involved - surprised it's not available in US - mine came from Japan. It covers 95% of the screen.
As for Sd card, I use Sandisk Ultra II

Here's a "Case Logic" neoprene glove, just the size of the camera; but I haven't seen it on their web site (caselogic.com)

I share my 2 SunDisk UltraII 256MB with my Pana FZ20; standard speed SD cards should be enough to store 3Mpixel images without delay.

first thing I did was go buy a yard of black ribbon for 50c (black satin finish/slight elastic/cushioned) the type that looks exactly like a camera strap.
then i brought some 0.016 inch thick clear vinyl for $3.95 a yard (unfortunately a yard (36x54") was the minimum.
cut myself a cling-type lcd protector, and fashioned a really nice handstrap for the camera. looks great. unfortunately i have a ton of vinyl which i need to get rid of.
anybody need some vinyl?
I can include a 54 inch x 3.5inch piece to fit inside a business sized envelope.

It's useful to have a spare battery. And I recommend getting 512MB (don't worry about high speed, it shouldn't matter in most everyday shooting).
Get a camera case, but for the lens and display projectors, leave them out first. Once you're more comfortable with the camera, then you can consider getting those. :)
