Shipped it out 11/3 and arrived back today 11/9. Pretty quick turn around and may have been quicker if it didn't sit at Fedex over the weekend.
A quick check and everything seems in working order. Some reports a have indicated metal clips put in to hold the mirror. This fix doesn't seem to have them.
Service details....
"We have examined the product according to your request and a modification was made to secure the mirror. The mirror did not operate properly from time to time. The part was attached and product functions were confirmed. Replaced focus scree, adjusted exposure & focus, cleaned C-Mos and checked all factory specs. Update firmware."
Not sure why the focus screen was replaced, but they sent the old one back with the camera.

about how many clicks do you have?

At a ballpark guess I'd say about 1800-2000. I hadn't actually had a failure of the mirror that I was sure of, but since Canon had the service bulletin out on it, I figured this was a good time of the year to send it in.

So did they actually flash a new firmware to it?

It had 1.1.1 before it went in and it's 1.1.1 now, so if they did flash it, I don't know why.
I have heard about this, so is this a warranty fix for any 5D? If so how do I go about sending mine in? I am in the photography doldrums so I might as well get this done now.

When I called they couldn't tell from the serial number if it was one with a problem or not and just recommended sending it in. I had shot some images a while back that had a dark area in one corner. It may have been a loose mirror blocking something or it may very well have been the neckstrap got in front of the lens. Figured it may as well go in before it fails when I really need it.
I took a close look at the focus screen they sent back and it looks like they got some goop on it while working on the mirror, thus they changed that out.
When you send it in put the body cap on and remove all accessories. I know I should have paid better attention when I took the handstrap off and the grip. I spent about 1/2 hr tonight trying to figure out how to rethread the strap correctly.
They provide a prepaid shipping label for UPS, so all you need to do is pack it carefully in a box, enclose some paperwork, and slap the label on the box. I dropped it off at a local Staples that has UPS shippng. It was returned via Fedex and has to be signed for. You will get a repair tracking number when it gets into their system.

thanks for all the info - above is the exact reason I won't send mine in.. LOL what a PITA that process is! I did have to do it once when I sent it out to get the sensor cleaned.... (which was a MISTAKE and waste of money!)

Don't feel bad; Canon stole one of my batteries when I sent my 5d in last year!!
Thanks for the info Mark. I need to send my 5d in to have this done. Its got about 18k clicks.
I've also got another issue with mine that really doesn't bother me but I know I should have it fixed or it will be more difficult to sell - the lights which indicate which AF point is selected don't work properly. The center, top and bottom sort of work, but the others don't light up. Not sure if they will fix it gratis with the mirror fix, but I doubt it.

I think you should send it in. Consider what could happen...you take a shot, the mirror assembly flips up, at that moment, the adhesive fails and your mirror goes flying off and bounces around in your camera. That could cause damage which is not covered by the mirror recall.
If you send it in, they fix the mirror and also do a calibration for focus and exposure. Consider it a free tune up.
I just bought a used 5D and was happy the mirror fix had not been done. I sent mine in Nov. 6 and got it back Nov. 12. Funny thing is, I got notification from FexEx that it was arriving that day, but the Canon repair tracking had it listed as in their facility.
You send in a used 5D ? Did they ask for you for any receipts or anything ?
I'd love to send mine in, as i know that its an old one, but i think its the asian version.

I had bought mine new and it was registered on Canon's site. Easiest way to find out if they'd take yours is give them a call at the toll free number in the link below.

Edit.... Oops, I forgot you were in Canada, so maybe check Canon's Canadian site...

Yep, I sent in a used 5D. I just called them up and asked about the mirror fix and if they would do it for my used 5D. They said no problem. They sent me an email to give me a UPS label to send it in for no cost.
I asked them what would be done. They told me that the mirror issue would be addressed and then they would give the camera a check up to confirm it was functioning within normal parameters (e.g. focus and exposure), and clean the sensor.
You can also request that they tell you the number of actuations on the shutter at that time too - good to know if you've got a used body.
