Greetings my artistic brethren and sistren -

I plan on getting a 5dII and to make the leap to a full-frame cam... I currently have a Canon 10-22 EF-S lens (for my 40D) which is great... what would be a comparable lens for a 5dII?

Thanks.

The comparable lenses are 17-40mm f/4, 16-35mm f/2.8 II. There's also some primes/TS lenses in that range. Of course you could have just looked up a list of lenses on the Canon website. I'd go with the 17-40mm f/4

i have the 16-35L I version and it's pretty awesome. easily one of my favorite lenses on the 5dII. you can find some pretty good deals out there on used copies.

the II version is more expensive, supposed to be sharper and control flare better. the I uses a 77mm filter while the II uses an 82mm filter.

the I gets a collective 8.9 at fredmiranda by the users

the II gets a collective 9

if you want super super wide, sigma makes a highly rated(8.8) 12-24mm for full frame cameras, but no f/2.8 or constant aperture.

here are a few took at a wedding a couple months ago with my 16-35mm I.

super sharp, this picture is even cropped by quite a bit, no added sharpening either, just default lightroom.

If I had a FF camera I would buy the 17-40 f/4 in a heartbeat.

Depends what you shoot.

If you plan on using it indoors and need the f/2.8, then the 16-35 I or II is your lens. If you don't need f/2.8, get the 17-40 f/4.

Or if your a wild man then get the Canon or Sigma 15mm f/2.8 fisheye. ;)

Thanks folks!

Adam, thanks for the clarifications and photo samples. Much appreciated.

I shoot a lot with the wide-angle so the 16-35L II looks like the lens I'll go with.
