Hello Everyone,
I am brand spankin' new to this site and I am here for one particular reason... I am going crazy! Please help me if you can, here is my problem:
My XP based computer crashed about a month ago. Previous to the crash, I had no problems downloading my pictures to my drive via USB 2.0. In fact, I had probably downloaded over 10k pics before the crash without a problem. I have a Fujifilm S5000 and I use an Olympus brand 128mb xd card with it. I have tried all of the following remedies without success and I am miserable at my inability to fix this problem. I have tried several different XP troubleshooters, uninstalling and re-installing drivers, reformatting the xd card through the camera, unplugging all other USB devices, re-installing software, tried using different USB ports, running the Microsoft autoplay repair wizard, and more.
More useful information- When I make the USB connection, Windows gives me an audible cue that the connection was made but nothing else happens. When I try to use the camera and scanner wizard the response from XP is that (1.) the camera or scanner is busy OR sometimes (2.) camera or scanner cannot be detected. When I try the add new hardware wizard my camera is not listed in the menu of devices, nor have I figured out how to add my specific camera. Sometimes, when I connect and turn on the camera Windows will list my device under my computer as removeable drive (H). When Windows does this I am able to open drive H. The sub-folder is labeled DCIM and the sub-folder under that is labeled 101_FUJI. My photos are contained within the folder 101_FUJI and to download them I can just drag and drop them to my desktop. I've discovered that I am only able to do this if I restart Windows and then turn the camera on before the Welcome screen appears. If the computer is already running and I turn on the camera, I only get an audible cue that the connection was made. Windows does not take any action and anything I try to do to get the pictures is fruitless. I have tried working in the device manager and WHEN my camera is actually listed there, everything checks out fine but nothing works. The same holds true if I go to contol panel, cameras and scanners.
If you posess the knowledge to assist me, please do. You never know how or when I might be able to re-pay the favor, but I'll damn sure try. Thank you for reading and responding. Also, I'm not quite sure how to retrieve responses to threads that I post due to a lack of experience in chats/forums, so please consider emailing your response directly to me if possible. Thanks again
