Hey I thought Windows users might be interested in this. Maybe one day Windows will add this feature by default like Mac does, but until then you'll have to download a codec.

Canon released their own codec, but it only works on 32 bit Windows...it will work in x64 in "windows photo gallery" but not in windows explorer.

if you run x64 windows and you want it to work in windows explorer you'll need to use this free third party codec...which is what i use and it works.

Cliffs Notes: Install the codec and you can see your raw files in Windows Explorer like you can with regular jpegs.

wow, been looking for this for my new 7D (previously waited for Sony to update their RAW thumbnail and photo gallery drivers). Thanks!

Funny you mentioned this, I found a link to the codecs yesterday on POTN and installed it and it works great on my Vista 64bit.
Too bad Canon themselves can't make a functional 54bit codec!

I've been looking for this since I got my 50D. Thanks a million!

a little off topic, but for those of you who do video, the new windows 7 doesn't have the choppy 5d mk II .mp4 playback that vista had. it plays very smooth! anyway, that's one thing i always found very frustrating. but the lack of raw support definitely.

Good to know Adam. I have a retail copy of W7 64bit Ultimate sitting here for the past month or more but haven't installed it yet.
More due to the fact of me being lazy restoring my work stuff on a new installation.

no shit, how'd you get a retail copy that early? i just installed it on my desktop at home. i'm pretty happy with it. it replaced my hackintosh.

Yeap. No go.

I already have something that shows me the thumbnails, so i guess i'll have to stick to opening them in DPP. or going the zoombrowser route.

Edit: to clarify, i can't actually preview a thumbnail, but i do get the thumbnail of the cr2 images, so i do get an idea what picture is which, i just can't "preview".

I've been running the final since August 7th. I got it through TechNet.

Yeah we have a premium MSDN account with 500 downloads a year. So I downloaded it with the key and have had it since the beginning of September but at first never installed it because all 3 of my hard drives were full-ish.
I think it costs about $2.5k a year to have it.
How I have a new 1.5TB drive and am still lazy to do it.

Anyone have a simple way of fully migrating Outlook 2007 accounts/settings and etc from Vista to W7?

Are you on SP3? It installed fine for me just now, but I don't have any CR2 files to test it on :( All I have here at work are DNG files.

I also use the DNG Codec (http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Codec) to preview thumbnails of DNG files, but only works in Vista.

i know the canon version worked on my xp(sp3) laptop before i installed 7, now i'm using the 3rd party codec...and so far so good.
