View Full Version : Blurry photos with A95
I just got my A95 and have been experimenting with it. I tried taking some self-timed photos of myself using the indoor scene mode, aperture priority settings and manual settings, and I can't get any of the photos to come out sharp. All pictures were taken with the camera sitting level on a tabletop. I was not moving. The room had moderate to low lighting. The camera is set to maximum resolution and compression. The multi-point function capability was on. The indoor scene photo was taken without a flash. The aperture priority photo was set to ISO 50 and aperture 2.8. The manual photo settings were also taken at ISO 50, with aperture set to 3.2 and shutter set to 1 second. I also played around with setting the shutter to .8 second and 2 seconds, with all the settings the same. In all the photos, I come out looking slightly blurred around all my "edges." What am I doing wrong?

What you are doing wrong is that you're moving... Your settings are probably perfect for a non-animated thing. Unfortunatly that is not your case and I am sure you can't hold still for 2 seconds, 0.8 seconds also seems a bit long... To be sure, take a picture at 1/30 second, trying to stay still... I can garantee that you won't be blurry...
Unfortunatly if the camera selected shutter speeds varying between 0.8 and 2 seconds, its because there wasn't enough light indoor. This is a problem you will often find indoors and this is why, most of the time, the use of flash is almost a must.
Thanks. The camera takes excellent photos with the modes mentioned before when there's more light in the room -- and when I'm photographing furniture rather than myself. I will keep experimenting...

I have the same problem with my A95. The picture is crystal clear with the flash but waaay to bright and washed out. When the flash is off, the picture is blurry. IT's hard to find a good medium with this camera.

This problem is also apparent in the Canon PowerShot S500.

Try the KID&PET scene mode for indoor, and see what happens. It works great for me.
Kid & Pet mode with or without flash? I took a photo using "indoor" scene mode yesterday and inadvertently took it with flash...but it came out great, much better than the one I took with the same mode but without flash.
