Occasionally my SD880 IS will emit a small puff of smoke from the top of the camera when I shoot a pic. The flash is usually on. It will only do it once, then is OK. There are no other symptoms and it seems to be functioning OK otherwise.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Just a thought, it could be moister on the flash.

Yup, I've seen it happen several times with small Canons and other makes.

i have several models of Canon's SD line and never had such a problem. whatever it is I recommend you bring your Canon for inspection to an authorised service centre. i personally would prefer to know for sure there is no problem rather than continue guessing.

I have yet to notice this on my SD880. Curious though!

My old SD550 did this when I was photographing the interior of a dark house. Worried the hell out of me (as it should). I think it might be caused by too many back-to-back flash pictures. Those little flashes need some time to cool. Next time you see it smoke, don't use the flash for 15 minutes and see if it's still doing it.

I agree, send it in to Canon for a repair estimate. I'd also check CanonUSA to see if there's a repair advisory that mentions it.

If all the "Magic Smoke" gets out the camera could cease to function. Get it checked out before something serious happens.

Smoke unintentionally coming from electronic devices is almost always a Bad Thing. Get it checked out.
