Well I am new, I just joined up, I recently upgraded from my 7 megapixel Canon IXUS Point and shoot to a Canon 500D Enthusiasts kit. Below are the photos that made me very proud and want to start taking much better photos.

I am yet to get some good photos from the 500D as I am still trying to learn how to use a DSLR, and stuggling to get some great shots, hence why I have joined =] but let me know what you think of the below pictures =]

I like number 4 in front of the house best.

A bit too much sky in the first two, though that is good if you planned on putting text there.

Number three cuts off the very front of the rightmost car (minor bummer).

Number 5 is OK, but a bit tight on the crop on the right.

Just my opinion :-)

Good job.

4's a keeper; love the line-up of the front door lines. Congrads on the purchase!

Try playing with low f-stops (use AV mode and make it the lowest number you can). That background blur (bokeh) is one of the big pluses, artistically speaking, of DSLR. Example here (http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/photo.php?photo=1356&u=233494,34) using 85mm at f2.8 (on a full framed camera - even more bokeh).

One trick to get more bokeh; get fairly close-up but have the zoom extended to a higher mm setting. Say; 15' away at 128mm using f4.0.

Enjoy!
