We need more information than that. The best camera for close ups would probably be a Canon 1Ds Mk III With a Canon MP-E 65mm 1-5x Macro lens. But that would set you back rather a lot of money. ;)

Try filling out the questionnaire here and posting it in a new reply: http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5111

Are you looking for a DSLR you can build a system around, or just something to pocket and take along? I have a older Nikon D100, but my wife carries a Canon Elf that takes pretty darn decent close-ups. Oh, and it's about the size of a deck of cards.

A lot of PnS cameras have nice macro mode.
I have used Fuji macro successfully. As long as you can hold the camera steady. You should fill questionaire detailing budget; etc.

You shouldn't have any problem finding something that suits your needs well within that budget.

"Probably." I can't vouch for all PNS cams, if you are considering one in particular, just research/Google its specs to be sure. I'm not pushing Canon in any way, but when my daughter moved up, I took her old Canon PowerShot A80 to keep around. It's only a 4 meg sensor, but comes in handy because it has a pivoting review screen which most seem to have abandoned these days. I use it to easily and quickly post pics to a vintage bike forum I belong to when I have a question and the part it in an awkward location. Attached is a close up I took with it. The lens was approx. two inches from the ruler. My wife's Canon Elf is capable of similar close ups, but has a 7 meg sensor and, as noted, much smaller, about the size of a deck of cards, very pocketable. I think it ran around $175.

Click REVIEWS & INFO (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraList.php) to get to camera listing currently on the market. Then upon clicking a camera for a research, let's select a Canon PowerShot G11 as an example, you will see some simple specs. About 1/3rd of the way down there is MACRO (Distance): Yes (1 cm). That means it has a macro mode with minimum distance of 1 cm. Have fun surfing.
