Hi,

Just found out my 580ex ii flash was broken today and saw that inside the battery compartment (not on the battery cover), one of the silver parts that come in contact with the batteries have some kind of residue on it.

(This is in comparison to a working flash unit whose battery compartment's silver receptors are perfectly clean and shiny with nothing on it.)

I looked at the batteries that I took out of it and saw that one of the batteries look like it had leaked.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem like this? And do you know if Canon warranty can repair this?

Thank you!

Can you let us know exactly what type of battery it was?

Brand, designation, voltage, capacity etc.

:)

Just clean the contacts with electro-clean or something similar or use a screwdriver to scrape the crud off the contacts. That should all save you a load of money. A typical out-of-warranty repair at Canon is $120 (just paid that) for a 580EX2.
