Congrats on your purchase. I know how you feel, I'm tracking a D700 that will be delivered tomorrow!

I have the Sigma 50 f/1.4 and prefer it over the 1.4G.
It is sharper and has better background blur.

You made a good buy. Its a solid lens. Just hope the distortion isnt too much for you. Thats the only downside in my book.

35 f/1.4 AI-S?

sadly, the 35/1.4 AI-S bears little resemblence to the outstanding 35/1.4L. so no. its not that one. its actually better than both...just not quite as fast. :)

F/2 then, wait, another f/2? A zeiss?, wait three purchases? Does the 300 F/2.8 VR count as one?

What else is there in addition to the new (still new? lol) D700?

I've completely lost track!

Congrats Santos, I'm sure you'll enjoy that lens. Post some pictures with the new lens when you get it. Rooz, you still haven't told us what the 2nd purchase after the 300 VR was, have you received it yet?

Sigma has a 50mm? is it HSM? i thought nikon would've been better than the aftermarket? How much did you get yours?

I'm picking a stuffed and mounted Meercat so he doesn't have to keep paying Zoo entry fees. with the brokeh he has now he can have the thing sitting on his deck and nobody will know any different.

Judging by his last shot, stuffed Meercats look like bristley buggers to pick up and move around.

Sigma most certainly does have a 50/1.4 HSM. Its a beast of a lens too.

Huge front element to eliminate vignetting on full frame cameras. Bokeh is slightly better than the Nikkor, but sharpness across the frame is still slightly better with the Nikkor. Both are priced the same ~$500 US.

Some people like the Sigma, others like the Nikkor. I don't think you can go wrong with either, but if you ever plan on selling, the Nikkor will hold its value better.

finally tried the lens. out the box...is the focus ring suppose to keep on spinning? or is it suppose to stop? at a certain point.? rooz help? =]

Rooz

if you mean turning it manually, it keeps spinning.

K1W1
10-01-2009, 01:19 AM
The ring will continue to spin if you go past the limits of max or min focus. The little clutch in the servo motor takes over and lets it slide. I suspect it's not good to just keep twisting it though.

Like the others said it is indeed supposed to do that.

Congratulations on your new lens! I'm sure you will love it.
