Hi all,
I have finally finished editing all the pictures I took in Australia this summer (it was winter there). The vacation was fantastic. We managed to see quite a lot of the country in a limited time. I definitly want to go back some day to see the rest though. It's a fantastic country; beautiful landscapes, wildlife, great people and interesting local cuisine (kangaroo tastes really good :) )
All in all, I'm quite pleased with the pictures I took, although it's hard to do justice to some scenes - particulary when visiting the scenes in less than great light. In this thread I'll post 20 of my favourite pictures I took there. I have many more, but I'll post them later in the POTD thread or some threads dedicated to a specific scene.
Thanks for viewing these pictures. I hope you'll like them. Comments and critique would be much appreciated.

Wow, looks like a great trip. Outstanding series! Are any of these HDR? (#8 perhaps? Others seem to be overly saturated a tad.)
Me too r3g, I got some family there and have been wanting to go for a long time. It's just so far (expensive)!
On a side note, Hey rooz! how come we never see pictures like this? just kidding, LOL!

Wow Prospero I'd watch out for the phone call from National Geographic those are some outstanding shots. I love the colours not to OTT for me at all. You've just reconfirmed my desire to revisit Oz.
Great shots. It's always nice to see things from a fresh perspective.
Just one little nit pick. Wallebie is spelt Wallaby. :)

dr4gon, the only one that looked over saturated to me was #9, but I'm sure that has more to do with the light than the processing. Nice series Dennis

Wonderful work there Dennis,
Sunlight in the wallaby shot is great, nice capture.
Uluru with rainbow is just awesome, from the other thread I understand those colors are that vivid.
King's Canyon, now that is what I expect Australia to look like.
Darling Harbor is composed perfectly, love the monorail, and the movement of the car. So much to see in the photo.
Excellent work my friend, you sure do a lot of traveling for such a young guy.
Thanks for sharing your trip
agreed. as usual, a stunning set dennis. cant pick a fave out of those. although the industry and uluru shot stand out.

Thanks Rich. I was really lucky that I could go to Australia with my parents, because on my own there's no way I could ever have afforded this trip. The last years I didn't go with my parents on vacation anymore, but with friends, so I was glad I could go with them on this trip.

None of these are HDRs. I did boost the shadows quite a bit here and there. #8 was more or less straight out of the camera, I only changed the whitebalance a bit and gave it a bit more contrast.

Thanks Phill. Shooting for National Geographic is one of my dreams... One that's never going to come true, though.

Thanks for the comment and the correction. I fixed it ;)

Thanks Rooz! Sorry about that. We were on a really busy schedule when we were in Sydney. We've got lots of family living there, so visiting them all took a lot of time. Anyway, I'll be going back someday after I have graduated. The next time I'll contact you ;)

ah ok, I figured if I had to ask, they probably weren't, but they look good. I think you did a good job with the WB to help set the mood.

Great images, you definitely were at Uluru at the right moment for that rainbow.
Too bad I didn't have a dSLR in 2005 when I was there.

Just awesome shots.
Wish I'd bought a D50, they take much nicer shots in Australia than I ever manage:D

Thanks Screenclutter and DPR.
Yes, the D50 is still a great camera. All these fancy features that I really miss out on (like better bracketing, less noise, more megapixels, beter focussing, metering with AI-s glass, better support for off camera flash, etc.) serve only to distract the photographer :)
Less is More, I guess...
But you know what, if you send me your D300 you can have my D50. It's still in a good condition, except that it needs a new eyepiece and some rubbers.

It only needs new rubbers cause you're still young.

Gorgeous shots! I think the last one is one of the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains.
Good thing you didn't have to go there a couple days ago, when the sand would have ruined your camera. :-)

just amazing. The one with the rainbow is truly remarkable. it should be printed.
I dont know how I missed this thread until now! You know how I feel about your work, Dennis and this is no exception. You continue to produce some of the best landscape pictures I have ever seen, anywhere! Just goes to show its the photographer that makes the camera, not the other way around! Great work!
Great series; you sure got around!

The picture is indeed taken near the Blue Mountains. I forgot the name of that particular rock, but it's opposite the sisters (the picture was taken from a cable car).
When we were there it was a bit rainy. That day we passed the three sisters twice, but the first time we could barely see them due to the clouds. Still, I suppose the rainy weather is indeed better than the sandstorms.
I once accidentally dropped my camera in the sand, I think it was two years ago. It took a year before all the sand particles were out of the wheels and you no longer heard sand scratching while zooming or focussing...
