I figured I'd start posting some of my Tahoe shots from the weekend. I'll just add them to the thread as I upload them to Flickr.

I especially like #2, with the waterfall in foreground and snowcovered? trees and peaks in back. Good timing on light and exposure.

This means I get to post one too :D. I was looking for this to make a possible print just as I saw your post. At first it wasn't on my new computer's hard drive, but to my relief it was floating on a random thumb drive.

Chimney beach, last December (I think).

There's no snow, it's just morning light hitting the light colored hills.

I like your shot. Looks like you had some awesome clouds. When did you go?

Early December. I drove up between storms just to get some clouds, disobeying a chain and snowtire warning in the process.

Is that snow or sand on the beach?

I think there's something funny going on in your processing. I'm not sure what it is though.

Yeah, I have more. I'm just uploading them here as I put them on Flickr. I only put 1 or 2 a day on Flickr.

The Alps sound awesome. Where are you from?

Very nice photos! Wow, there is hardly any water at the lower falls now. How did you get colors in this one of Emerald Bay, filters? Which filters dooo you use??

Nothing too crazy but here are a few of mine:

Nice shots Brian. I knew Eagle Falls wasn't going to be raging, but I wanted to check it out anyway. I'll have to go back in the spring. What month was your first Eagle Falls shot taken?

I think I used a CPL and Lee .9 hard edged GND filter for that shot of emerald bay. The colors were nice, but not spectacular. I helped that shot along in LR2. I think I cooled the WB, brightened the foreground with the grad tool and bumped saturation and contrast.

Mumbles, great shots, the last one is my favorite.

Lucas, I live in Austria, Vienna, damn place is some 200-300km away from true Alps, I wish I had a job in Salzburg or Munich because they are so closer to nicest places in Alps... this year had no time for Alps. Had very short trips there so got no time to shoot something meaningfull plus it is getting colder soon so once you do not fancy skiing and snow it would be futile to go there, will wait for next spring, perhaps late May or early June.

Gintaras:

You lucky duck. For future reference here is an interesting 5 day trip:

Munich to Garmisch P and the Zugspitz (Germanys tallest peak) then over the mountain road to Innsbruck, past Tegernsee, and Kimsee, then down to Salzberg and Vilach in SE Austria near the Italian and Slovak borders. Unfortunately my older 990 was in for repairs when I went there last (2004 biz trip) so no pics.:(

One of these days I want to do that again, only take 2 weeks this time. Mag-nificent!

I was in Munich for Electronica last November but didn't have a chance to get out futher than the airport.:(

I love Tahoe, have access to a cabin on the North Shore, but it's been shot to death, like Yosemite, Sedona, and The Canyon. One of my goals, while I find myself between jobs, is to get out to the places rarely photographed...

Snow. It was after a small storm and before the first big storm. There is something funny, but I accidentally deleted the RAW file a few days later so it is hard to go back.

Emerald bay is nice, I had some more but they didn't make it to my laptop.

Yeah, but I'm not going to stop going to gorgeous places just because they've already been discovered.

Brian no3 is my favourite. So many elements of interest in one shot and a sunset to boot, really lovely.

Agreed, and I don't think that was implied. I still love going to all the old haunts, but there is nothing like discovering a new place (new to me anyway) and shooting something fresh like wild horses east of Scottsdale or the North side of The Superstitions.

Great venues and beautiful places tend to stay interesting, but my goal is not to reshoot scenes from Arizona Highways...;)

There are a thousands of ragged stumps around this mountain.

Been that way for about 29 years.;)

It's the stones that make the shot for me. I just like the way they get blurred by the water. It gives the whole image a cold shivery feeling. Was it just a slow speed & water movement or did you blur it in PP Lukas. Either way it's an excellent shot.

Thanks Phill. 5 second exposure, the water wasn't moving much, but it was moving enough. I don't like the way PP blur looks.

Perhaps I should clarify what I mean, then.
When pictures of landscape / nature scenes show more color than the human eye would have picked up alone, I think it has alien colors. I don't mind other alterations so much: dof, slight sharpening, adjustment of contrast and brightness. A blue cast over the entire picture for the sake of trying to evoke a particular mood for example I don't have a problem with, but with a more or less subtle edit of the colors to make a picture 'pop', I do. It seems to somehow cheapen what is already there. Few, if any, agree with this, but that's quite beside the point, which wasn't to attempt to argue: it was merely to put forth an explanation since one was apparently needed.

Bup, have you been to mountains and have you seen green or blue water there? this is natural and real my friend. let me post photos which have all NATURAL colors as I saw them. and YOU won'T believe but the water is indeed GREEN, so green that when you first time see it you do not believe it is real. The lake is called Gruner See (Emerald lake) located about 160km away from Vienna in Styria province in the mountains.

here you can compare my images to the ones posted by others and you will see no difference to the color.
http://www.gruenersee.at/

Lucas, sorry I will remove my posting when Bup will finish reading it and admits that some things can be indeed real.

Fair enough. Well, I can tell you that the colors in the first 3 are pretty close to reality. The Emerald Bay shot more color than it did in reality. Tahoe is an incredibly blue lake though.

Yes, those look natural. But everyone has their view and the main thing is that we take the pictures we like, I think.

Just spent some time looking through this thread. There are some great shots posted. I've been going to Tahoe every year for about 14 years. (It helps that the parents have a place in Incline Village.) But I've only really started photographing it in the past two years.

Here's some of my favorites:
