im noticing that the pictures are a little grainy from my coolpix 4100. i have the resolution on 4mp. this camera also does not let you increase the shutter speed to get blur-free images when you want to take a picture of someone moving fast or something. is there a coolpix camera higher than the 4100 that lets you do this, or maybe not lets you change the shutter speed but at least gets blur free photos? any hints on that grainy issue as well?

hello,
the coolpix especially the 4xxx range are really simple P&S for noobies. It's good for beginners as it is easy to use and quite cheap. If you want more features, then u'd have to hit the Canon A-series or pony up for the more expensive cameras. but u can always use post-processing to fine tune the pictures. :)

Perhaps the Nikon Coolpix 5400 would be a good alternative for your consideration. It has a point and shoot capability, as well as all the other bells and whistles such as shutter priority, aperture priority, anf full manual.
It is currently selling for around $410 and there is a $200 rebate being offered on sales through 03/31/2005, creating a bottomline price of $210 for a great digital camera. i took the Nikon 5400 "plunge" and have been very pleased with the 5400.
