Any of you guys use Auto ISO? I was thinking about playing with it a bit with the D90 after watching the Dtown TV episodes.
Also I really like these episodes. I get at least 1 hint out of each one. I have found the episodes to have some very useful information. Some of it isn't though. When they discuss constant vs. variable aperture, that's a little too basic. But when they get into the details of capture NX2, that's a little too much information. So, overall I think they have a good balance of information. I'm on episode 17 now.
Unfortunately DTown TV stopped at episode 24 (or maybe 25). There is supposed to be a replacement of some sort appearing but I have not heard or seen anything yet.
On Rooz's advice (just join the I hate Rooz club it makes life easier) I have my D300 on auto ISO for it's sports settings. I just set it to max iso 1600, minimum shutter speed 1/800 sec and I shoot in Aperture priority which means that if I ever think about things like DOF I simply adjust the aperture setting. These days I really look at what the actual iso is on pictures for the sports ones and if I notice that it's so dark I can't maintain the shutter speed I simply up the max iso or lower the min shutter speed or sometimes both.

I use Auto ISO for indoor events photography a while back. The problem is the camera always use max ISO that I set for obvious reason, so I stop using it. Still I can see AutoISO can be very useful for outdoor action shots.
it wont use max iso unless you need it. auto iso is always on or me unless im on flash.

Exactly, Rooz. I turn off Auto Iso when using the SB800's in a wireless setup.
It took me a few hours to figure out why my camera would not adjust the exposure properly and I found out the ISO kept changing.... doh
I wish in newer bodies and flashes, switching to commander and wireless would be faster/easier.
I love auto iso and how programmable it is, this is one reason I'm swapping to the D700.

I'm the same as Rooz, I usually have it on unless expressly using flash. I wish Nikon had a setting that would disable auto iso if a flash is attached. At least they have the quick access button. I have auto ISO on my quick access and can turn it off in seconds but it's still a pain.

I'll play with my D90 tonight, but it may turn off Auto-Iso with flash. The other night when I was playing with it, I didn't quite understand what it was doing when the ISO would stay at 200 with the flash, but when I turned it off it would go back up with the Auto ISO. But then I was also switching between rear synch for flash and regular (and I don't remember which one it was on at the time). That may have been causing the difference also. I did have the SB-600 attached to the hotshoe. Which also could be the difference. And I don't think that it turned off, it just stayed at 200, the camera was assuming the light was going to be enough to keep it there.
