Sisters Cybershot camera is giving her some issues. Basically it seems to not work sometimes i.e the camera switches on but the screen is black (and so are the pictures taken) but most of the time it seems fine. The start up system seems to have slowed down a bit so I'm thinking maybe it's just the cameras firmware/software issue. I had given it to the service centre but they called back and told me nothing is wrong with it....So I was wondering if there is a way to kinda fix the camera without sending it back to them i.e a place I could update/fix the firmware/software on the camera assuming that is the problem.
Thanks....

What is the camera model? Cybershot doesn't tell us much. How old is it?
When it doesn't work, what precisely is happening? How are you taking the pictures when the screen is black? Can you power up and down a few times and the problem goes away?
I doubt firmware is the issue; it's unlikely that there's any kind of fix for you there. My first thought is electrical connection, which basically means home repair or just replace it.

It's a W90. 2 years old...so no warranty...
When it does not work, it powers up fine but the screen is black and the picture comes out black i.e it's like taking a picture with the lens cap on. If I power it down and up, the problem does not seem to go till now though if I power it up after a few hours, everything seems fine.
Sounds similar to the problem with my S1 IS. Suddenly all I had was a black display and black images. I sent my S1 back to the factory for the free fix. It sounds like a very rare fault - nothing comes up in my Google searches.

It's just happened to me once in the past two days where I've powered up the camera 7 times till now. It basically died on my sister during her vacation and I suppose they never tried powering it up again....
