How is your Cybersync set up working out? I'm thinking about getting a trigger and 2 recivers for my studio light set up.
How do the attach to the flash? Do they have a built in cord or do you have buy that seperate?

Thank's

In short, CyberSync are the bomb. I've been using them for 6 months (1 transmitter and 4 receivers) and they are still 100% reliable even when firing through walls. Definitely worth the money. They connect via PC Sync cable btw. If your flash lacks a sync port than simply pick up one of these hotshoe adapters:

http://flashzebra.com/products/0126/index.shtml

I use 3 of these adapters and they work great.

i bought them on reg's recommendation and in a word, they are faultless. the receivers come with the sync cable you need to attach to the sb800. i prefer to make sure that the flash i use have a sync port, no more parts and it makes life much easier. sb28's do the trick.

there are a couple of annoying design flaws you can work around;
1. no lanyard or loop to connect a lanyard; (buy lanyard and connect via battery compartment)
2. test button too pronounced and easily triggered, (glue round washer around it). i just store them in a hard case so they cant be triggered in my bag.

I have been looking at the Pocket wizard mini and flex...allowing full use of ITTL via radio wave communication. How does CyberSync compare?

radiopoppers are a better option for TTL chris. they are more reliable and the reports from owners have been glowing to say the least. there have been alot of issues triggering and TTL faults with the PW mini's, (in canon ettl). cybersnc's are far cheaper but no TTL of course.

This is what I want to sync.

It has a 3.5mm plug I think.

If I wanted to use these strobes with my SB 800 & SB600, would I need recievers for my speed lights also?

Each light requires its own receiver.

the 3.5mm jack cable that you need to attach to that light in your picture is provided in the box.

Your SB-800 already has a sync port so you simply plug the 3.5mm to pc sync cable (which is also provided in the box)

Your SB-600 doesn't have a sync port so you'll need to buy the hotshoe adapter I linked to in my first post. The adapter has the proper 3.5mm jack to plug directly into the receiver.

In my opinion iTTL isn't worth the extra money unless your frequently place your lights great distances apart. I've never had a problem walking from flash to flash setting ratios. CyberSync = more exercise and more money to spend on other gear :)

To anyone with the Cybersyncs, do you have any issues with the transmitter staying locked in on the hotshoe? From the images I have seen, it doesnt appear to have a "dial" to secure it?

I am very close to purchasing them, as I am tired of having to position the SB-800s within sight of the camera body and I am unable to use them as a backlight due to in not seeing the signal from the body.

Thanks, Rooz. Now I just need to make up my mind.... cybersyncs or radiopoppers....decisions, decisions.

if you have the cash and use off camera flash alot then i'd get radiopoppers hands down. you then have the option of ttl or manual.

There's no dial, but they stay in. I've had mine for almost a year and I don't think it has loosened much, if any.

My transmitter also stays on really tight on both my cameras.

If you don't need iTTL than CyberSyncs are definately the way to go. They are stealing a lot of the business that was supposed to belong to the Skyports lol.

You don't need a receiver for each flash if one of them like your SB800 has an optical slave mode which fires when it sees a flash. Works fine if you're the only one shooting flash in the area, but doesn't work if there are others using flash nearby.

Thanks for all the input and advice everyone. I think I am going to go for radiopoppers, I just like to have options, and they will give me that.

If you're running and gunning there's really no better way to go, even with formals the time is really not there to play with making adjustments manually. It's literally easier to calculte fall off and move the light stand. Quite often I use two SB-800s to light a stage and even that's not an option. Aircushioned stands do not make lowering the stand an expedient process. Either way it's easier for me to just use a third flash. Otherwise the moment is gone.

I'll probally go with the Cybersync. I have trouble getting my JTL lights to go off with the pop up flash or my SB 800. I think they are going off before the shutter opens.

I can get them to work with my 50mm f1/8 but, not with my 18-55 VR lense.
Any suggestions?

I've also been looking at this so I can mont my speed lights on my light stands and use umbrellas. These looked to be about the best ones I could find.

Yep. The past few shoots I spent way too much time fiddling with the SB-800s off cam, and what really chapped my ass was having to constantly rotate the head so the sensor could see the commander flash. So annoying!

I hope Tomcat doesnt mind me hopping in on his thread!:)

Thanks again everyone!

Are you shooting your flash in manual mode? If you're shooting in TTL mode then the preflashes will be setting off the JTL lights early because they're seeing the preflashes and can't recharge in time for the actual flash burst.

Jcon no problem. This is some good info. You asked questions I didn't think of.

achuang I just looked at the pics I took They were TTL BL and Commander i-TTL. The camera was set for Auto, Program, and Manual. It looks like I got mixed results with both lenses and all the above settings. I guess this will give me something new to learn.

Thanks.

thanks Rooz. Seems like I saw one like that when I found the other one yesterday.

It looks like most of it is made out of aluminium. Is the main base aluminium also or is it some type plastic?

That's a very good multiclamp. Made of metal so it will take tip-overs very well. Go for it!

all metal. comes with a cold shoe and adaptors for 3/8 or 1/4in fittings. here's a pic of it with an umbrella mounted on my clamp.
