View Full Version : Enough to make grown men cry
Apparently this is what happens when Fedex are given the job of delivering your Nikon 70-200VR lens.

No it's not mine.
I came across this in a forum post on Flickr (link here (http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikon70-200mm/discuss/72157621234578548/))

that's no small feat, that lens is built like a tank.

how was that possible. The lens should have been inside it's own box and padded should it not?

If you read the thread it appears to have been correctly packaged. The box was so badly damaged that even the soft bag Nikon supply with the lens had a hole in it.

What did they drop it from 50,000 feet:confused: So sad but FedEX has insurance. I've seen crap like that from UPS but never FedEX... I'll never look a their vans the same trusting way ever again... so sad an end of an era. (tears)

Usually if you are shipping something worth money, you purchase insurance for things like this through whoever you are mailing it.
Personally, I dont trust any of the parcel companies, a few years ago sitting at a major airport, I was watching FedEx load packages onto the airplane, and lets just say they were treating the packages like footballs. UPS is even worse.

I've seen how they treat firearms. So far I've been lucky.

I've ordered a lot from overseas and my experience with fedex is that the packages looks like they've been sodomized by an elephant when they arrive, and their customer service representatives should be sodomized by an elephant. I've stopped buying from companies that only use fedex.

I'm in agreement on it being a forklift. Had it just a little too high and speared the pallet. Happens quite often in plants where people don't care.
I don't watch things like fed-ex and UPS employees. I'm sure they are thinking "these things should be packaged well enough, and if it is valuable enough for someone to care, they should have bought insurance". When you only make $10 an hour that's what happens.

The Royal Mangle anyone?
It's always a bit of a lottery getting things shipped.

That is quite the mental picture you paint there.
I bought a box of specialty ports once. Took 3 shipments from the winery before it actually arrived.
I sent a 600kg UPS to Geelong a couple of weeks ago and what the specialist transport company did to it makes that lens look undamaged.
It's not only small general freight items that get beaten up sometimes.

This might explain what happened to the lens.....
