What I would have given to have 11 AF points on my D40 back in the day -_-

thanks,

For example this page:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=nikon_d40%2Cnikon_d60%2Cnikon_d90%2Cnikon_ d3000%2Cnikon_d5000&show=all

It compares
Nikon D40 Nikon D60 Nikon D90 Nikon D3000 Nikon D5000
They all see to have the same specs.
a little change in the Max resolution, Effective pixels, Sensor photo detectors.

Besides the megapixels (which at these sizes does not matter that much)
What are the big differences between the cameras?

I do not care about the video camera. If I can take HD video. Is that a big difference in these cameras?

Is there a less expensive, good camera that does not do HD video?

thanks

Whoa, whoa. The D90/D5000 have much better imaging sensors than the D60/D3000/D40 series. Take a look at the sample images in their reviews here. Particularly in the realm of high-ISO imaging, the D90 and D5000's CMOS sensor technology is miles above the CCD sensors built into the lower-tier models. ISO 3200 is very usable on a D90... not so much on a D60.

There is a D3000 now? Every time I blink there is a new Nikon or lens. Shoot. I gotta come back here more often.

R3g, the 3 focus points is what did me in for my D40.

Although the D5000 has the same sensor as the D90, both the D5000/3000 cannot wirelessly trigger slaves flashes with the on-camera flash. It requires you to have the SB-900/800 or SU-800 mounted on-camera to act as commander.

I'd be quite happy to have that fast 11 point focusing. Everything else is inconsequential (though I still wouldn't buy a Nikon below the D90).
