View Full Version : Anybody want to bet on a D300 firmware update?
It seems to me that a lot of the features of the D300s (virtual horizon, 7fps, Active D-Lighting bracketing to name a few) could most probably be added to the D300 through a firmware update.
Does anybody want to put their hand up and say that they expect Nikon will issue new D300 firmware?
P.S. My vote is "very unlikely".

I'll vote "maybe" - they did do it for the D70 when the D70S came out... but I won't hold my breath.

Won't that kinda kill the point of having a D300s then....cause I though apart from video, those were the only new things....

Not really.
You have the quiet shutter.
Movie mode
Dedicated LV button
Revised rear controller
CF and SD cards
Contrast and phase detection LV focussing
Bulb mode shutter release
as well.

I don't think even the most optimistic Nikon salesmen are really expecting too many D300 owners dump their now obsolete old cameras to buy the 's' - it's pitched at the D40/50/60/70/80/90/100/200/1 owner thinking about upgrading or the potential new high-end DSLR owner who is looking at Sony and Canon products as well.
As I mentioned above they did provide a few tweaks for D70 owners when the D70s was released... seems only reasonable that they might give what they can to their loyal customers who have already invested the best part of $2k in a Nikon body in the last couple of years... then again, they have our money already so why should they bother?

You would hope, but there's no breathe holding going on around here
