I have a new ZS3 that I'm really enjoying. Yesterday I brought it into work to show a friend. I handed the camera to him, he put mode dial into regular camera mode, then asked me "Why does it only zoom out to 3X?" I said I didn't know, since it's a 12X camera.
I then switched the camera to iA mode, at which point it zoomed out to 12X as expected.
Can anyone tell me why the camera limited me to 3X while in regular camera mode?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "regular" mode?
Anyway, your friend obviously has very little idea about this camera! It does indeed have a 12x zoom equivalent to 25—300mm in 35mm terms.
As it's an optical zoom, it doesn't matter what mode the camera's set to; you've ALWAYS got 12x zoom available.
Cheers. :)

Actually, I just figured it out. I had the camera in a macro mode. When you do that, it limits the zoom to 3x.
